The RJHS 2nd quarter Whirlwinds Rally will be tomorrow @ 8:15am for 8th graders and @ 9:00am for 9th graders. Parents are encouraged to attend. Please enter the building through the main office.

The RJHS PTO is sponsoring a holiday dance this Friday night! The dance is 7:00pm-9:00pm and it is $3.00 to enter. There will be a concession stand open and a photo booth for students to enjoy. Students may dress in their holiday best or rock their ugliest Christmas sweater!

RJHS Quiz Bowl teams are teaming up with Ronnie Peters and the Regulator Motorcycle Club to raise money for their yearly toy drive. Half of the proceeds will go to our district's quiz bowl teams to help pay fees for Nationals. Tickets will be for an opportunity to win a 2019 Nissan Sentra! The tickets are 1 for $12 or 10 for $100. Tickets can be purchased from members of the team or through RSD Quiz Bowl sponsors, Summer Hutchinson, Hannah Edgell, or Johnny Barham. The RJHS Theatre is conducting auditions for the Spring musical "Aristocats". Auditions are Wednesday and Thursday, Dec 12th and 13th, until 5:00pm in room 303.

Prosecuting Attorney and School Board Member, Jeff Phillips, is speaking with every 9th grade English class today about his job as an attorney, trial procedures, and his favorite book of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird. A huge THANK YOU to Mr. Phillips for making this novel even more relatable and real to RJHS students.

RJHS would like to invite all parents and guardians to join us for our annual Thanksgiving Meal on Tuesday, November 13th. 8th grade lunch begins at 11:00 and 9th grade lunch begins at 11:55. The cost for a student meal is $2.70 and the cost for an adult meal is $4.25. Please call 479-968-1599 to sign up for the meal. You can pay for the meal when you come in to eat on the 13th.

Only 2 more chances to see Whirlwind Theatre’s production of The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza. Today at 2:00 pm and again this evening at 7:00 pm. This is just a reminder that a flu clinic will be held on October 19th, this Friday at RJHS. Flu forms were sent out last Friday and both forms need to be signed and returned before that day for your child to receive the shot. The clinic will start at 12:30, Friday afternoon.

Congrats to the Lady Whirlwind Cross Country team! They won the Wampus Cat Invitational this past Saturday in Conway! This is the second win in a row for the Lady Whirlwinds! Way to go ladies! Go Whirlwinds! #rjhswinds

The end of the 1st 9 weeks is next Wednesday, October 10th. This counts as 40% of a student's semester grade. Students need to make sure they have completed all assignments as soon as possible. Parent/ Teacher Conferences will be held on October 23, from 1pm-7pm.

Flu forms were sent home today with RJHS students. If your child did not receive a form and you wish for them to have a flu shot, please notify the RJHS nurse. The flu clinic will be held on October 19. Both forms need to be signed and returned before that day for your child to receive the shot.

The RJHS October Library Contest will be a pumpkin decorating contest! Get into the fall spirit by decorating a pumpkin to look like or represent your favorite book or book character! Pumpkins can be brought into the library starting on Monday, Oct 15th! The deadline for entering decorated pumpkins is Tuesday, October 30th. See the attached flyer for contest rules!

RSD ACCEPTING G/T PROGRAM REFERRALS
Russellville School District is now accepting referrals for student placement in the Gifted and Talented (G/T) Program for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have a 2nd-11th-grade student you feel should be considered for placement in this program, you may pick up a referral form from any Russellville elementary school office or the GT/AP Office at Russellville High School. The completed form must be returned to your child's school by Friday, April 13, 2018. The RJHS Library is having a Book Art Contest!!! All RJHS students and faculty are welcome to participate.
Create something new from something old! Use your imagination (or Pinterest) and create something fun! Your work MUST feature a book or parts from a book. Use your own book or come ask Mrs. Baldwin about old ones in the bookstore.
You can combine other media (paint, pencils, ink, etc.) with your book.
You are encouraged to use reused or recycled materials or things you have on hand.
Entries can be turned in starting

RJHS PTO March meeting will be held Monday, March 5th, @ noon in the RJHS library.

Congratulations to the RJHS Choirs for earning superior (I) ratings in performance and sight-reading yesterday at CPA! RJHS is proud of you!!!

The RHS Lady Cyclone basketball team has advanced to the finals of the conference tournament. They will play at Greenwood at 1 p.m. this Saturday. The Lady Cyclones will advance to State 6A basketball tournament in West Memphis next week. They have received a first round bye and will advance to the quarterfinals and will play on Thursday or Friday next week.

Russellville School District will be dismissing 90 minutes early on Monday, February 19, 2018, for Parent/Teacher Conferences at Russellville High School and Russellville Junior High School. Last week, RHS and RJHS held Student Success/College and Career Readiness Conferences instead of Parent/Teacher Conferences. This early dismissal will allow teachers to prepare for these conferences.

Parent's this is a reminder that Russellville School District will dismiss school at 1:40 on Monday, February 19, 2018. School will dismiss early for Secondary Parent Teacher Conferences beginning at 4:00.

A meeting for parents of track athletes in grades 7-12, is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20th, at 6pm in the RHS Cafeteria. Coach Ben Goodman will be on hand to give information on the upcoming season.

Parents, Student Success Conference sign up letters went home last week. If you have not already signed up for a time to meet with your child’s SSP teacher, please do so by this Friday, February 2nd.The website and code to sign up with is on the letter. Russellville School District invites parents and the community to a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Showcase on Wednesday, January 31, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Center for the Arts. Russellville Schools will close tomorrow, Friday, January, 19th. This is a result of the high absentee rate due to flu illnesses. School will resume on Monday, January 22nd.

January is School Board Member Recognition Month, and RSD would like to thank the seven school board members who advocate and shape the direction of our school district. Members of the RSD School Board include Morgan Barrett, Chris Cloud, Breanne Davis, Allan George, Jami Mullen, Jeff Phillips, and Wesley White.

RJHS students have raised over 1500 cans during our canned food drive! We would love to give the cans to those in need in our school and in our community. If you, or someone you know, would like a bag of food items for the holidays, please come pick them up at RJHS at the front of the building Wednesday, November 22nd from 9a.m. to 12p.m. Food will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. We look forward to seeing you then!

It is time for the annual Adopt a Whirlwind” drive. Adoptions can be made beginning on Thursday, Nov. 16th. A Christmas tree will be set up in the RJHS cafeteria with whirlwind ornaments that have each need and the adoption information on them. Adopt early and take advantage of Black Friday sales. Adoptions can also be made after we return from break. All gifts are due by December 15th. RJHS would like to invite you to our Thanksgiving feast on Thursday, November 16. 8th graders will eat at 10:45 am and 9th graders will eat at 11:45 am. RJHS will be conducting the first of three ACT Aspire Interim tests this week. The 8th grade will test tomorrow, Tuesday, November 14th. The 9th grade will test on Wednesday, November 15th.

This week is Diabetes Awareness Week! Students will be listening to guest speakers during both lunches on some days and videos on the other days. In addition, Student Counsil is selling armbands and we are going to "Walk for a Cure" on Friday afternoon. RJHS's goal is $800! Students can pay $1 during TEAM and then fill their name out on a sneaker cutout. The sneakers will be hung up in the cafeteria. We will wear BLUE on Friday for the walk. Parents can enter the building under both 8th and 9th covered walkways. The Book Fair will be set up as you walk in the building. RJHS principals and teachers are excited to see everyone there!

It's time for the 4th Annual Whirlwind PTO 5K Run/Walk & 1K Run! Please join us on Thursday, November 2nd on the east side of Russellville Junior High for this fun event sponsored by the Junior High School PTO. Entry fee is only $20 for adult runners/walkers, $15 for student runners/walkers or you can be a virtual runner for only $20! Entry fee for the Kids 1K is $10. Entries must be received by October 27th to guarantee your Whirlwind 5K Run/Walk t-shirt on the day of the race. You may register on the day of the race as well. All proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk & the Kids 1K will go to RJHS PTO for a variety of activities that they provide for students at RJHS.

Dr. Gotcher will host a Twitter Town Hall on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, from 6:30-8 p.m. on the social media platform Twitter. During the town hall, participants will have the opportunity to give feedback on three questions: what does RSD need to start doing, what does RSD need to stop doing, and what does RSD need to continue doing. The three questions will be released at different times throughout the evening on Dr. Gotcher’s Twitter account @mlgotcher. Participants are asked to use the hashtag #RSDListens when responding to the questions.
Dr. Gotcher will be in the Board Room at the Administration Building during the Twitter Town Hall. Community members, parents, staff, and students are welcome to attend and view the tweets as they come in. The district will also release an online survey with the same questions for anyone who wants to give feedback, but doesn’t want to participate in the Twitter Town Hall.
The Twitter Town Hall is part of Dr. Gotcher’s Listen and Engage Plan that includes gathering feedback from students, parents, staff, and community members in the River Valley.

Parents please don't forget that RJHS will host a flu clinic on Oct 19th at 8:30. Flu packets went home with students on Friday, and BOTH forms need to be returned as soon as possible.

The RJHS Fall Book Fair will start on October 12th and end on October 24th. It will be open during Parent Teacher Conferences on the 24th. Students and parents are encouraged to shop and discover "Oh, the places you can go... with a good BOOK!". Next Week is RJHS Colors Day week! Students are encouraged to dress up for each day's theme as long as dress code is followed. The themes for each day are:

5 weeks progress reports will go out to 8th graders on Wednesday, September 20th, and to 9th graders on Thursday, September 21st.

8th grade hearing and vision screenings will be conducted on Tuesday, September 19th, and Wednesday, September 20th during the school day.

The Child Nutrition Department would like to remind parents that a new application must be filled out each year to qualify for free and reduced meals. If you have not filled one out for the 2017-18 school year please fill one out as soon as possible. The last day to turn in PTO Whirlwind t- shirts order forms is next Wednesday, September 6th. This will be the final order PTO is submitting.
