RSD Hires New Head Basketball Coach

Russellville School District is excited to announce the hiring of Coach LaShanta Johnson as the new Head Coach of the Lady Cyclones Basketball team. Coach Johnson brings over 16 years of experience coaching at various levels. 

Coach Johnson comes to Russellville from Conway High School, where she has served as the Assistant Girls’ basketball coach and Head Girls’ tennis coach for four years and led the team to be named the 2023 6A State Champions. Under Coach Johnson, the team also has won two 6A conference championship titles in 2023 and 2023. This year, Coach Johnson was named the 2023 ArBCA Assistant Coach of the Year. 

“I am so excited to have Coach Johnson become a Cyclone! RSD and the Lady Cyclones are lucky to have her join the Cyclone Family,” commented RSD Athletic Director, Ben Goodman.

Prior to serving at the high school level, Coach Johnson was the Conway Junior High School’s Head Girls’ basketball coach for nine years where she led them to two conference championship titles. 

Coach Johnson takes on the mindset of creating a competitive and nurturing environment so every athlete reaches their full potential. Since beginning her coaching career, Coach Johnson has coached two repeated Arkansas Players of the Year and two repeated Gatorade Players of the Year. 

“Throughout my coaching career, I’ve experienced what it takes to champion the opportunities given to you. On the court, in the classroom, and in life through preparation, practice, and performance.  I’m excited to join the Cyclone family and build our Lady Cyclone Basketball Program with that same Championship Mindset!”

 In 2010, Coach Johnson graduated with a Masters in Kinesiology from the University of Central Arkansas. Coach Johnson graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education and Health Education in 2007.
